Lana Del Rey returns with ninth album

Grammy-nominated artist Lana Del Rey has announced the release of her ninth studio album, Did You Know There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd.

The album is set to be released on March 10. The album comes quickly after the release of two albums in 2021, Chemtrails over the Country Club and Blue Banisters. According to Pitchfork, after the release of the Blue Banisters, Del Rey set the record for the most No. 1 albums on Billboard’s Alternative Albums chart.

Based off of the titular track that came out Dec. 7, 2022, the sound of the album will follow in typical LDR fashion. A lonely, melancholy track backed with heavy piano, the song brought fans back to the quintessential Lana sound.

According to the album cover, Jack Antonoff, Mike Hermosa, Benji, and others produced the album. Fans can expect guest appearances from Bleachers, Jon Batiste, as well as Judah Smith, pastor of the celebrity church, Churchome.

The name of the album, Did You Know There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. was inspired by the defunct Jergins Tunnel. The song contains all things essential to an LDR song: loneliness, low self-esteem, and obscure places in the United States.

Del Rey first made waves in the music scene with her 2012 debut album, Born to Die. Since then, she’s made a name for herself as a singer/songwriter whose songs cover Hollywood trauma, tragic glamor, and romance. Fans were first introduced to her work with songs like “Summertime Sadness” and “Young and Beautiful”; the latter of which was featured in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby.

As of now, Del Rey has yet to announce any tour dates, though she may not tour at all. The artist hasn’t toured since her 2020 tour for Norman F****** Rockwell! Since then, though, COVID restrictions have lightened, so fans can keep an eye out for any tour announcements.
