Daniel Seavey takes new approach in music industry

Emily Koehrsen

Singer and songwriter, Daniel Seavey, released his second single as an individual artist on Friday, Dec. 9 titled “Runaway”.

Seavey was formerly part of a band named Why Don’t We formed on Sep. 27, 2016. As the band was together they released a total of six EPs, two albums, and 21 singles, and went on four tours. On Aug. 27, 2021, the music industry was shocked when the band stepped forward with allegations against one of their managers which led to a long legal battle that is still in process. A tour was planned for the band, but they were then forced to cancel it and go on a hiatus due to steps taken by the manager that has the allegations against him.

Due to the hiatus, Seavey saw this as an opportunity to expand his horizons in the industry as his former bandmates provided immense support. Seavey was known in the band for his talent to produce music as it would just flow to his mind and easily piece together. He released his first single titled “Can We Pretend That We’re Good?” and it became a hit with his previous fans and even reached a new audience.

His newest song “Runaway” was another hit as I enjoyed the feel of the song. It gives an upbeat and flowy vibe with the background instrumental and pace. Compared to his first song this one was a little softer and didn’t come off as strong which I believe is a great contrast, especially for the people that like the calm feel. Seavey gets creative with his production as he adds effects to his vocals and the sounds of the instruments.

On a scale of one to five with one as the lowest, I would give this song a five out of five. Overall I really liked the song and recommend you take only a couple of minutes out of your day to listen to it. Seavey announced to fans recently that he has future plans to release an EP and go on a small tour. You can find his content as well as all the band’s past content on any music streaming platform like Spotify or Apple Music.
