Berlin Bears excitedly anticipate the release of onscreen entertainment as new movies and TV shows grace theaters and at-home stream services.
As the holidays are on the horizon, platforms like Netflix and Disney+ have new seasons of beloved TV shows that avid fans are excited to watch.
Stranger Things, a show set in the 1980s, follows a group of friends in Hawkins, Indiana as they encounter supernatural forces. Through a search for answers, this group of friends and family come together to reveal mysteries with the government, and the unknown. Stranger Things season one released on Netflix in 2016, with a successful 3 seasons to follow. Season five is set to debut in volumes, with a four episode launch on Nov. 26, three episodes on Christmas, and the finale episode on New Year’s Eve. While this story is set in Indiana, Berlin’s very own Bears are beyond eager.
“I’m most excited for Stranger Things because my sister really likes watching it, and she’s making her fiancee watch it too, so I think it’ll be funny to hear about,” Izzy Parsell ‘28 said.
In addition to Netflix’s release of Stranger Things, Disney+ is set to launch the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Dec. 10. With an eight episode series, each 40-50 minutes, season two continues the on screen adaptation of author Rick Riordan’s beloved fantasy novel series. This release matches the plot of “Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters”, which follows Percy and his new friends on a journey to retrieve the Golden Fleece, and help save their camp.
“I’m most excited for Percy Jackson. I’ve grown up reading the books and the series really does the books justice, plus it’s super fun to watch with friends,” Maggie McGrothers ‘28 said.
In contrast to the at-home watch experience, theaters across the world will welcome the much anticipated Wicked: For Good to the screens. The story of Wicked has been one that fans throughout generations have enjoyed, from the book “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” released in 1995, to the Broadway originated musical, and now on the screens. The first part of Wicked, which ended with Elphaba’s Defying Gravity, played by Cynthia Erivo, released on Nov. 22, 2024. Fans have impatiently waited for part two, which highlights beloved songs like “No Good Deed”, “For Good”, “As Long As You’re Mine”, and more.
Erivo and co-star Ariana Grande recently announced during NBC’s Wicked: One Wonderful Night, an exclusive musical event, that two newly composed pieces would debut in part two. “No Place Like Home” and “The Girl in the Bubble” are set to grace the screens with this new release.
“I loved getting to experience the magic of the first film and cannot wait to see the finale in theatres,” Maddie Haugk ‘26 said.
Bears will have to get their popcorn and blankets ready, as Thanksgiving and holiday breaks will be filled with new releases both at home, and in theaters.
