With summer around the corner, people want to be the most tanned version of themselves, however, it is important to have sun safety.
Ultraviolet radiation is what makes a person more tan when the rays shine on a person. These rays can become quite harmful though when no sun block/protection is applied. Without sunscreen, skin cancer, burns, and other skin conditions are more likely to occur.
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, “Studies show that regular daily use of SPF 15 sunscreen, when used as directed, can reduce your risk of developing squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) by about 40 percent, and lower your melanoma risk by 50 percent”.
Besides safety from skin diseases, wearing sunscreen prevents wrinkles and aging spots. Thefore sunscreen should be non-negotiable.
Market techniques and social media had made the search for a good quality sunscreen nearly impossible by false advertisement and big influencers.
Minerals that prevent UV radiation, like titanium dioxide and zinc oxide act as a shield protecting your skin from the sun. You should also look for avobenzone and octisalate in your sunscreen. These chemicals absorb the sun’s rays before your skin can, and in result reduce risk or damage.
Grab a water resistant sunscreen if you plan on a swim or other exercise forma that will produce a lot of sweat in order to ensure maximum sun safety.
It’s also important to make sure you know what SPF you need. SPF stands for Skin Protection Factor. If your skin is more sensitive to the sun, or you have a family history of skin cancer you may want to try an SPF of 30 or 50. If you have a higher tolerance to the sun, you might only need SPF 15.
Sunscreen will not affect your tan, it will just keep your skin from getting any serious damage. So make sure you remember to wear and reapply throughout the day in order to protect your skin from the sun.
