Students at Berlin and throughout the central Ohio area have begun to feel the burden of rising gas prices.
A recent survey found that in Columbus, gas prices have risen to $4.99 per gallon on average, according to NBC4. Since last April, the prices on gas have increased by 84 cents per gallon.
With an average tank size around 12-14 gallons, it can cost around $60 for one tank of gas and, for some students, that could be a good significant amount of their paycheck.
“The gas prices are astronomical!, as a working student who pays for her own gas, at least half my pay check has to be spent on gas. So in the end I don’t really want to go anywhere because I don’t want to spend money on gas,” Josie Cash ‘26 said.
Gasbuddy, a technology company and mobile app that helps find cheap gas, conducted a survey of gas prices across the country.
The survey found that gas prices rose one dollar per gallon from last month, to average out $4.48/gal, up 37.3 cents from last month and $1.40 higher than a year ago.
For the first time since 2022, the national average price of gas has reached over $4 per gallon. This increase causes concern for many, as the annual spring surge hasn’t begun yet which is a time where high spring break travel and the transition occurs from spring to summer.
For cars that require premium instead of regular gas, it could result in a higher cost of gas. As many students love to drive around to go shopping, grab food, or other leisure activities, they may have to start to limit where they go.
