Katie Shulack takes pride in her job as a Food and Consumer Sciences teacher and brings a lot to Olentangy Berlin High School every day.
Shulack grew up right outside of Philly, and attended a large school similar to Berlin. She participated in many sports and even coached for a little bit later on in life. Shulack moved to Ohio for college and settled there. She lives there now with her husband Bill who she has had two children with. She originally wanted to be a zoologist, but realized it wasn’t for her and went down the teaching path.
“[Berlin] is definitely my favorite. I also taught at Lakewood out in Buckeye Lake … I did like middle school. I was at Berkshire for a while…I like seeing you guys going off to college and graduating, so I think I missed that part in middle school,” Shulack said.
Shulack has had a lot of experience with teaching throughout her life. Her mom was even a home ec. teacher similar to her. She also spent time coaching and has been a part of many environments.
“My favorite part about Berlin High School, obviously it’s the school spirit and I like that most of us, all the teachers and staff go out of our way to make connections with students,” Shulack said.
Shulack enjoys working at Berlin. It is clear she cares about her job as she loves many projects she has the opportunity to teach. Shulack goes above and beyond to make connections with her students which is the part of her job she loves most of all.
“I still talk to a lot of my graduated seniors. I go to lunch with them, occasionally I go to dinner. It’s just nice to hear from them, so I have a ton of students that I have made permanent connections with that I really have enjoyed seeing you know continue to grow,” Shulack said.
