This summer in Paris, there will be a flood of athletes prepared to give it their all on the biggest stage in the world and a flood of spectators ready to watch their team compete.
The Olympics are one of the biggest sporting events, where the best of the best from every country come together, ready to show off their skills every four years. Paris is hosting the summer games this year; it has been exactly 100 years since they last hosted.
This year, there are going to be 42 different events, from equestrian and track and field to football and wrestling to artistic gymnastics and shooting. There are a wide variety of events that will go on at the Olympic Games. The top five most popular events include gymnastics, track, swimming, women’s soccer, and water polo.
For Team USA, there are over 500 different athletes competing in their respective athletics. Some of the big names hoping to make it past the trials include Simone Biles (gymnastics), Michael Phelps (swimming), Lebron James (basketball), Sydney Mclaughlin (track), and David Taylor (wrestling).
206 different countries will be represented in this year’s games, with around 10,500 athletes competing. Some countries do have more athletes than others; the ones with the most include the United States., China, Great Britain, Japan, and France.
Not only is the athlete count high, the expected number of spectators is way higher. With an estimated 15 million people from all over the world coming in to cheer, the weeks between July 24 and Aug 11 will be swarmed with foreigners.
Tickets for the Olympic events have gone on sale, so some events are already sold out, but you can still buy tickets on the official Olympic ticket site. The price of the tickets depends on the event and what the seats are, but the majority of them are affordable and not to pricey.
Paris is known for its art, culture, and architecture. There are plenty of very famous landmarks there, such as the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, along with many other sites that you can’t miss.
