After a thunder delay, the Bears’ boys lacrosse team fell to Thomas Worthington on Wednesday night with a score of 10-11.
The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, April 14, but a thunder delay postponed the fourth quarter to the next day at 6:00 p.m.
Sophomore Connor Baerenclau opened the game quickly for the Bears, scoring within the first eight seconds of the game. Baerenclau scored again minutes later, which put the Bears up 2-0 fast.
After three scores from the Cardinals, the Bears saw themselves tied at three late in the first quarter. A score from sophomore Liam Murray late in the first put the Bears up by one going into the second. This was Murray’s first goal of the season.
The Cardinals scored three unanswered to start the second, making the score 4-6. A score from Lheo Gonzalez ‘26, and a score from the Cardinals made the score 5-7 going into halftime.
During the unusually short halftime, lightning was starting to show in the distance. It was not close enough to cause audible thunder, but it was nearing closer: threatening an impromptu finish to the game, similar to the game against Olentangy Orange.
Gonzalez opened the third quarter for the Bears. After a goal from the Cardinals, senior Braylon Lopez scored twice within a minute, and Barenclau scored his third goal of the game, giving him a hat trick, and putting the Bears up by one, 9-8. However, a goal from the Cardinals tied the game at 9 late in the third.
Also late in the third, lightning was nearing closer. One specific strike of lightning lit up the sky at Thomas Worthington, causing the referees to call for a rain delay.
30 minutes later, the game was called. It was announced that the game would be continued the next day at 6:00 p.m. at Thomas Worthington.
On Wednesday night, the Cardinals opened the fourth with a score to put them up one, but a goal from Tyler Grau ‘28 tied the game at ten forcing overtime.
After a promising start to overtime, the Cardinals scored early, ending the game 10-11.
The Bears hope to bounce back in their game on Friday, April 17, against 3-3 Hilliard Davidson.
