As temperatures warm, the Berlin Bears begin tryouts for their spring sports.
Sports include: boys and girls lacrosse, softball, baseball, boys volleyball, boys tennis, and girls and boys track and field.
Teams began official practices earlier this month, as they prepared for a scheduled season. Coaches across programs say the focus has been on conditioning, fundamentals, and building team chemistry after months of offseason preparation.
“We’ve had great energy at practice, and I’m so ready for the season.”

On the lacrosse field, both the boys and girls teams look to build on last year’s progress. With starters in the lineups, practices have focused on communication and transition play. Coaches said speed and agility will be key as the teams prepare for a demanding conference schedule.
Our teams in Berlin have traditions. Varsity baseball teams bleach their hair when it comes time for the season. This is a tradition that they’ve had for a while. Players usually dye their hair after they learn if they’ve made varsity. Also, a lot of our spring teams go on spring break with the team. This is a very good way to bond with the team, while also playing the sport. This year, softball is going to head down to Tennessee. Our baseball team is also headed to Florida. Our boys’ lacrosse team is going to Tennessee.
In track and field, the girls and boys have their tryouts in the next couple of weeks to finalize the relays and other kinds of events, like long jump or hurdles. Early meets will help to determine relay teams and event specialties as the athletes aim for postseason qualification later this year.
Community support remains strong, with parents and students expected to fill the stands as schedules ramp up. Booster organizations and volunteers have assisted with field maintenance, fundraising, and event operations to ensure the season runs smoothly.
Players are more than ready to get the season started and work their hardest to qualify for districts, sections, and all the different tournaments.
