After an 11-12 record last season, the Berlin girls’ basketball team enters the new season determined to flip the script.
The Lady Bears basketball team began their season 1-1 after a huge 64-47 win over Bishop Hartley on Saturday. The Bears then fell short to Hilliard Bradley 46-51 after a hard-fought game that ended after three overtime periods.
A group of veteran players and new talent now forms a roster built on tough defense and improved depth on offense. This year, the girls’ program works tirelessly to fight for an even better end-of-season record. After the loss of many vital senior players, new players Keely Donohoe ‘28 and Alana Dowe ‘27 enter this year’s lineup with high goals set for the season.
“I feel really good about this season. So far, we started 1-1, which means there is room for growth, but I think we have great leaders on this team to push us to do our absolute best this year,” Dowe ‘27 said.
Upperclassmen and returners from last season push the team to continue to work hard at every practice and weightlift to create a strong foundation for the team.
Berlin’s practices became even more centered on areas that can be improved for every aspect of play. The Bears work to focus more on film review, extra lifts, and practices to increase the chances of a better season.
“Last season we could have done better, but this year I am confident in the team and our ability to be super competitive in every game, which can hopefully lead to an incredibly successful season,” Ava Green ‘26 said.
This season, the coaches are very eager to push the girls to do even better than last season, with hopes to encourage and inspire the team to bounce back from any adversity faced after last season’s close losses.
“I am excited for this season and to watch all the girls grow and learn every day. We have a great group of girls who are eager to learn and fun to be around,” Coach Miller said.
The Bears prepare to battle Hilliard Darby on Friday, Dec. 5.
