Berlin had 17 athletes sign from ten different sports to continue their athletic careers in college. Nov. 12 was a big day for student athletes around Ohio as it was Signing Day.
Lots of talent has come from Berlin, as ten athletes have committed to Division I schools, six students committed to Division II schools, and one student at a Division III school. Many athletes fall in love with their sports for many reasons, which leads them to continue in college.
“My love for track really was the main reason. I was never pressured in any way, but it came with getting good, and I’m blessed to be in the position I’m in,” Miles King ‘26 said.
King has committed to the University of Indiana for track. He has been a three-time state qualifier for the 300 hurdles and looks to qualify again this year.
When a commit makes a decision to attend a college, it is important to make sure the University is a good fit for the athlete. The atmosphere, dorms, team dynamic, and coaches all impact the decision the athlete will make.
“I chose Oklahoma because of their family atmosphere and their genuine care for you as a person beyond your sport.” Izzy Stassi ‘26 said.
Stassi has competed in the Junior Olympics in 2023. She looked to compete in the Olympics in 2024 but suffered an injury that hindered her ability to compete. After she recovered, she has been on top of the leaderboards and continues to make great strides toward her goal. She has been committed to the University of Oklahoma since September.
When an athlete commits to college, it’s a big deal. Athletes always have friends and family to come to support them on this special day.
“When I committed, I was in a meeting with the whole staff and both my parents, so they were all the first to know, and it was very wholesome! I told my best friend after that,” Stassi said.
Friends are an important part of what creates a great athlete. Especially when they’re young and have great athletes and role models to look up to.
“My favorite Berlin track memory is my freshman year running the 4x400m relay all year with Cooper Citro, Moses Murphy, and Jude Elkins.” King said.
