Bella Lin ‘28 is on her first season of being a part of the Berlin girls wrestling team. Lin deeply appreciates the many experiences and opportunities she has had as a wrestler.
“I really like the competitiveness and the drive that you have before every single match, the adrenaline rush,” Lin said.
Lin has a lot she loves about wrestling. Not only does the competition give her something to look forward to and work for, but she also loves working with her teammates.
“Overall, it’s just a really big family and a great team community. Whenever I go to wrestling I know my friends and my whole team will be there for me no matter what happens,” Lin said.
While Lin sincerely enjoys being a part of her team, it isn’t always easy for her. Wrestling can take a lot of effort and be draining in some ways.
“Cutting weight this often has a significant mental and physical toll on me. I love wrestling, but sometimes having to change my eating patterns so often can be pretty frustrating, and it’s not easy to maintain,” Lin said.
While it isn’t easy work, a good thing for Lin is that it does not go unappreciated. The Berlin girls wrestling coach, James Kasser, is proud to have Lin as a part of the team.
“Bella’s always working hard at wrestling. She’s a great athlete, and I love to see her show up to matches and tournaments when I can tell she’s ready to work hard,” Kasser said.
One of the greatest things about the wrestling team, for coaches and athletes alike, is that they all have the same mission. The players want to improve individually and secure some wins.
“My best memory from wrestling is probably getting my first win and working with my teammates,” Lin said.
