The Cleveland Cavs are off to a hot start in their 2024-25 campaign with a 5-0 record, eager to improve on last year’s playoff run that ended in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Under new head coach, Kenny Atkinson, the Cavs aim to build on their solid core and pursue a deeper postseason run.
“It starts with if every guy gets a little bit better, every individual gets a little bit better, that’s how you can make the next step,” Cavs coach Kenny Atkinson said.
In their season opener on Oct. 23, Cleveland dominated the Toronto Raptors by a score of 136-106, and showed off its powerful offense and defensive consistency. Key players like Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland returned in strong form, while center Jarrett Allen continued to provide support on the defensive side of the ball with seven rebounds and four blocks. This trio, alongside rising star Evan Mobley, anchors Cleveland’s aspirations, as each has shown steady growth and resilience in their early games.
“We put the ball in his hands so that he can be a star now,” Cavs center Jarrett Allen said.
This season, the Cavaliers face high expectations, especially after the offseason contract extensions for Mitchell, Allen, and Mobley. The front office’s commitment to the core of the roster has energized the fanbase and raised hopes for a push towards another championship.
Since the opener, the Cavs have taken down the Detroit Pistons by a score of 113-101, the Washington Wizards 135-116, the New York Knicks 110-104, and the Los Angeles Lakers 134-110. The Cavs will face some of the NBA’s best teams over the next few weeks, which will require them to come together as a team to put forth their best effort in order to come out on top.
With a balanced roster and a renewed sense of purpose, the Cavaliers are positioned to make waves in the Eastern Conference. As Coach Atkinson settles in, Cleveland fans are hopeful that this season will be one to remember.
