With over 1,000 followers on Instagram, 200 on X, and two weekly sports updates that air on BNN, members of the DBSN staff wanted to continue to expand the network’s horizon with its newest feature: DBSN Overtime.
The idea for the show came from DBSN’s Executive Producer, Eli Baxter ‘25, and Studio Manager, JD Low ‘25, who both wanted to expand DBSN’s presence.
“I wanted to start the show to take on something more fun and exciting that gave us more presence in the journalism world,” Baxter said.
Modeled off of ESPN’s SportsCenter, the show features Baxter and Low as anchors, who go through and provide insight into non-Berlin sports, including the NFL, College Football, MLB, NHL, and much more.
Like SportsCenter, the two offer their picks of the week and cover the biggest news around the sports world.
For Baxter and Low, DBSN Overtime is another way to engage with the student body.
“We wanted to give the student population fun insights into sports outside of Berlin and around the world,” Low said.
A trial-run edition of Overtime was filmed on Thursday, Sept. 19 and ran for over 15 minutes, as Baxter and Low took viewers through a recap of NFL week two, a preview of the college football games over the weekend, and other sports news from around the globe.
Baxter and Low now look forward as they look to expand the show’s horizon by adding new segments and graphics.
The plan is for the show to be recorded and released every week on Thursday or Friday. The first official show was released on Thursday, Sept. 26 and published on YouTube at OBHS Broadcast.
