The girls track season is about to start, and the distance runners are prepared to start off the season strong.
Athletes that don’t play a fall sport, started conditioning in Nov., and others started in early Dec. If they don’t go to the conditioning in the winter, then they have to try out. Lots of Bears have agreed that practice in the cold is very difficult.
“Conditioning has been good, but it’s way harder training in the winter season,” Aiyana Mantrao ’27 said.
All of the runners are excited to start the season off this year, especially with Coach Beggrow. He is the coach for distance running this year and is very liked by his athletes.
“He’s great, he’s very supportive and motivating and understands his runners very well,” Mantrao said.
Training and conditioning is very crucial to prepare for upcoming meets that begin on March 1. During the pre-season the athletes have to focus on a solid foundation of fitness and strength. A usual day of conditioning includes a warm-up first with a half mile or a mile. After, the athletes go for a long run and then come back for conditioning and core. Sometimes there will also be workouts they participate in.
“It’s been great so far and it really preps you for the outdoor season,” Mantrao said.
The Berlin girls have enjoyed the pre-season so far and look forward to meets, which start in March.
“I think track has been going great. I feel that I have a lot of freedom in what I can do at practice and also love seeing my friends. Coach Beggrow is nice and a great coach,” Adriana Ybarra ’26 said.
The girls look forward to their season this year.
