The University of Michigan Wolverines football team were victorious in “The Game” against The Ohio State University, for the third consecutive year, to a tune of 30-24. The loss raised questions about the coaching staff as well as several of the Buckeye players.
Arguably the only bright spot on the game sheet for the Buckeyes roster that afternoon, was wide receiver and Heisman front-runner Marvin Harisson Jr. Harrison ran for 23.6 yards per reception against Michigan, which was the second most for him this season. Harrison also was responsible for one of the Buckeyes three touchdowns – just as he has done in all but three of the Buckeyes’ matchups this season according to ESPN.
“All praise and glory to God. He’s blessed me a lot with a lot of different gifts. Each and every day, I just try to honor those gifts, put in as much work as I can, and He’s blessed me to be able to accomplish a feat like that,” Harrison said shortly before the Michigan game, according to Sports Spectrum.
For Harrisson and all the other final year players on the Buckeye Roster, this unfortunate game may just be the final game of their college football careers. That is unless a very specific set of events unfolded in Ohio State’s favor. Due to the fact that the Buckeyes slipped from second to sixth place in the College football Rankings, Louisville would have to beat Florida State, and Washington State would need to defeat Oregon, in order for the Buckeyes to make it to the college football playoffs, according to CBS Sports.
However, if the Buckeyes are not able to make it into the college football playoffs, then the players might not be the only ones no longer being contracted with Ohio State after this season. Buckeye head coach, Ryan Day, has been the subject of blame from many fans and media members alike, after he took his third straight loss to Michigan in as many years. For Buckeye fans, as well as the media, success in “The Game” is paramount in how coaches are viewed, and this loss has made many fans want Day out of the coaching position as soon as possible.
“There are guys with scars, and I’m one of ‘em. So, it just drives you every day to work harder and to make sure you do everything you possibly can to win,” Day said according to SBNation.
