The theater department announced this year’s three major productions with the cast of two of the shows released on the first of this month.
The first production the theater plans to present is How to Host a Murder Mystery Dinner Party is set to be shown on Oct. 14-15. This show will be an actual dinner theater for all the audience members and features a variety of characters in an isolated mansion who become suspects in a murder.
“I’m excited to work with the rest of the cast. Meet other people. Also excited to paint the sets, we’re working on the mansion,” crew member Londres Tchuitio ’27 said.
The winter play was revealed as The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe with shows from Dec. 8-10. A production based on the first book of the classic novel series, The Chronicles of Narnia, by C.S. Lewis, the performance will follow the adventures of four siblings from England who end up in a fantastical world of mythical creatures in the midst of a revolution against the tyrannical ruler, the White Witch.
“In a magical world such as Narnia, I’m excited to see the creative design that will be poured into portraying characters such as Tumnus the Faun, Aslan the Great Lion, the Beavers, Centaur, Wolf, and more. Having been cast as the White Witch, I’m excited to transform into a new character’s villain complex and command her subjects. I’m looking forward to the costume, makeup, and the fight scenes. The Theater Department has a great lineup for this year, and I can’t wait for all the memories in the making.,” Elizabeth Sprecher ‘24 said.
For an extravagant character like the White Witch, and a fantasy world with knights, nymphs, and centaurs, a backstage crew is essential to keep the magic intact. One such crew is the costume crew who will be in charge of anything worn by the actors.
“I’m really excited to work on the White Witch costume! I think it’ll be loads of fun to mess around with the little details. The makeup and hair for the lion costume is also something I’m really hyped for,” costumes crew member Yazhini Neelakandan ‘25 said.
The theater department presented Footloose as their spring musical scheduled for Feb. 22-25 showings. Footloose has not announced a cast yet with auditions lined up for sometime later in the year.
“I love being able to see what really goes into making plays and musicals. it’s really cool to watch actors and crew get more comfortable with lines and cues as the weeks go on,” props crew member Lance Tomsen ‘26 said.
