Throughout many decades, there have been several adaptations of the classic love story and drama Wuthering Heights. This most recent version, released February 13th, 2026, stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, two actors who are slowly starting to dominate Hollywood right now, so expectations were high. People weren’t just curious about how this adaptation of the story would go; they were mostly interested in whether these two actors could pull off one of the most intense romances in literature.
Originally written by Emily Brontë, Wuthering Heights is not a simple love story. It’s messy, emotional, and even sometimes frustrating. The film is dark and dramatic in the best way, and the setting feels very cold and isolated.
What really makes this version stand out in this film is the passion and chemistry between Robbie and Elordi. Their connection felt real and intense, not forced. You could feel the obsession, anger, and longing in almost every interaction. Instead of just playing the roles of Heathcliff and Cathrine as dramatic lovers, they made them feel raw and complicated. Their performances carried the entire movie.
There are some controversial parts to this movie, including the relationship between the two main characters and how Heathcliff treats both Catherine and Isabella Linton in the movie. His character is portrayed as obsessive and controlling, and the way that this adaptation goes about representing him, [Heathcliff] can be disturbing for some.
“I think their relationship is very destructive because it ends up killing her and destroying the relationships for her [Catherine Earnshaw] and everyone around her,” Kyla Anderson ‘26 said.
At times, the pacing slows down, especially in quieter scenes. Some viewers might find it dragging, but it adds to the emotional weight of the story. This isn’t meant to be a light, romantic movie. It is meant to feel overwhelming.
Overall, this adaptation of Wuthering Heights was great because of its leads. While the story itself has always been dramatic, Robbie and Elordi elevated with performances that feel powerful and passionate. Even if the movie moves slowly at times, their chemistry makes it worth watching.
“The best part was Jacob Elordi because he is so good looking… other than that I thought the movie was well done but a little bit too slow,” Peyton Curry ‘26 said.
I think the casting was excellent, and it really helped this movie live up to its potential. In all I would recommend Wuthering Heights to anyone who loves romance, tragedy pieces, and dramas.
