Love is an Open Door for the Berlin Theatre Department as they pour hard work and dedication into the spring musical Frozen, which begins in February.
Frozen the musical, based off of the beloved Disney film, follows Princess Anna of Arendelle, played by Clara Torlone ‘26, and her newly crowned sister, Queen Elsa, played by Ava Tobin ‘26, who possesses magical ice powers. After Elsa unleashes an eternal winter and flees the kingdom, Anna is accompanied by iceman Kristoff, and snowman Olaf, to attempt to rebuild her relationship with Elsa and thaw Arendelle. Throughout this courageous journey of musical numbers and self-discovery, Anna is able to find that an “act of true love” can thaw a frozen heart, and save the people of Arendelle.
The animated movie has been on millions of screens since 2013, and the stage version came to light on Broadway in 2018. However, it wasn’t until August 1, 2025 that Music Theatre International, (MTI), granted rights for high school students to perform this magical show. While a shortened 60 minute version of the production titled “Frozen Jr.” has been available for schools and companies since early 2019, Berlin will perform around a two hour long performance full of love and bravery.
“It’s very exciting to be doing a new musical, especially because we’ll be one of the first in the state to perform it because the rights were dropped just recently,” Ava Tobin ‘26 said.
For the First Time in Forever, Berlin Theatre will showcase a two-weekend run of a high school musical, which begins February 12. Rehearsals started back in November, with lead character work, vocal rehearsals, and an eight hour choreography rehearsal over a Saturday. While this process seems foreign to those outside of theatre, for veteran seniors like Tobin, this is just the theatre norm.
“As a senior, it feels surreal to be rehearsing for my senior year musical. But this cast and crew has been so great to get to know and build a production we are so proud of together”, Tobin said.
Bears will want to mark their calendar for January 19, as the ticket link goes live to purchase a chance to see this magical Disney story come to life on the Berlin Theatre stage.
