Wistful winter locations to visit around Ohio

#1.) Columbus Zoo and Aquarium- Wildlights at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium never fail to be easy, inexpensive, and full of amusement. The Wildlights is a tradition for several families in Central Ohio due to accessibility and the range of variety of attractions. According to Columbus Zoo and Aquarium ticket prices range from $11.99 to $25.99 based on home address or zoo membership status. This event runs from Nov. 18-Jan.1 and includes a plethora of activities from the Twelve Days of Wildlights Train Ride, Camel Rides, and even Rudolph and friends. This attraction is for all ages as the mass of lights grasps viewers’ attention each and every way they turn. A Sparkling Spruce Tree and larger than life snowman are two of the most prominent light figures at the Zoo.  Overall this event is not one to miss and once you visit it could become an annual tradition for your family and friends as well. 

#2.) Hocking Hills– If ever in need of a nice getaway Hocking Hills provides the best mix of winter wonderland and cozy comfort. Hocking Hills provides plenty of affordable and homey cabins to cuddle up in or, once the winter snow lays over the ground a hike in the hills gives a feeling of winter cheer that is sure to help warm your holiday spirits. There are many nature attractions that are sure to catch one’s eye such as ice skating on Logan Lake or a walk in one of the few state parks in the area. If you are more of an inside person the Cedar Falls resort offers a luxurious stay along with the spa that is sure to give relaxation. 

#3.) Dublin Ice Rink at Riverside- If you are in need of a classic winter activity, ice skating should be at the top of your list. While indoor ice skating rinks are full of enjoyment this outdoor rink is sure to change up the scenery. The location of this rink is just by Bridge Park gives you a beautiful view of the water which adds to the experience. According to Dublin City, the rink is open until mid-March and admission is only $12 which includes skates. This rink is only open Fridays-Sundays with hours that vary each day. The location is near several well-known restaurants so you can stop by and grab a bite and warm up after you skate. 

#4.) Kings Island Winterfest- This Winterfest is unlike any other event within Ohio. According to Kings Island, the park transforms into eleven winter wonderlands. The event lasts from Nov. 25-Dec.31 and tickets start at $29.99. The park has a variety of attractions from ice skating, a WinterFest parade, and a chance to decorate cookies with Mrs. Claus. There are millions of lights strung throughout the park which brings the best holiday cheer to the park. Not only does it have the full winter experience but you can enjoy around 20 rides. The shops around the park also include the Winterfest with many holiday gifts and gadgets. All in all, this event includes a short getaway with an addition of thrill and relaxation. 

#5.) Kalahari Resort- Kalahari is Ohio’s largest waterpark and packs the perfect punch if you are in need of a staycation due to being located on the edge of Lake Erie right in Sandusky. As stated on the Kalahari Resort website there is an abundance of experiences to partake in at the resort. At Kalahari, there is a Madagascar mini golf course, laser tag, a large arcade room, and the bunch of rides and slides that Kalahari is best known for. This resort includes it all in one and has a variety of attractions that provide inclusivity for ages. Besides activities Kalahari also has plenty of options for food. They have Italian cuisine along with American food, a Pizza Pub, and even a Winter Holiday Buffet. This resort has affordable stay prices so any family or group can enjoy a stay at Kalahari.
