As Berlin athletics continues to grow, The Columbus Dispatch continues to nominate students. Senior Austin Lambert, defensive end for the football team, has been nominated for this week’s award.

“I should be athlete of the week because I don’t see it as an individual honor but also as a team honor,” Lambert said. “I could not do my job without my teammates doing theirs and vice versa.”

Teamwork and a love for football gave Lambert the ability to kill the Thomas Worthington game. With four tackles, two sacks, a tipped ball that resulted in an interception, and a fumble recovery, Lambert left it all on the field.

“Berlin football has helped me grow to understand my place in a team environment and how I can contribute to their success and how they can contribute to mine,” Lambert said.

A good role model and a good coach have pushed Lambert to perform at his height every game. Through his 13 years on the field, Lambert has fought not only for himself, but for his father.

“My love for football started when my dad first coached me in little league,” Lambert said. “He played football in college and I wanted to be just like him.”
