24-year-old singer, Alexander O’Connor, who is most popularly known as Rex Orange County, has been charged with six counts of sexual assault in London. 

   O’Connor began his solo career with the release of music in late 2016 and early 2017 on a music app called Soundcloud. He then rose to fame after his feature on two songs in Tyler, The Creator’s album “Sunflower.” He released his third album in 2019 and released his most recent album “Who Cares?” in March 2022. He then began his tour in the US and Europe.

   According to DEADLINE, in early July, O’Connor announced that he needed to cancel the rest of his tour for personal reasons. It is now known that he was charged with assault of a woman six times over the course of two days in London earlier this year.

   “Alex is shocked by these allegations, which he denies, and looks forward to clearing his name in court,” a representative of O’Connor said.

   Rex Orange County’s popularity has grown tremendously over the years, especially here at Berlin. Many of our own students are fans and have attended some of his shows. Junior Maya Jordan attended one of his shows here in Columbus and has been a follower of his for a while now. 

   “Not only was he my favorite artist, I looked up to him as a person… It’s heartbreaking and devastating, and it’s hard to look back on memories and not be sad,” Jordan said.

   O’Connor has denied all charges, and there is a trial date set for Jan. 3.
