Jayhawks rock start of season

The Kansas Jayhawks have shocked the College Football world with their strong 5-0 start to this season, after they’ve gone unranked since 2009.

The team was nowhere near the AP top 25 power ranking at the beginning of the season, but crept their way up to the no. 19 spot in the week six ranking.

Kansas has wiped out Tennessee Tech, West Virginia, Houston, fellow basketball powerhouse Duke, and most recently Iowa State. The Jayhawks will face off against the no. 17 ranked, and undefeated Texas Christian University this Saturday.

ESPN’s College Gameday will make its way to Lawrence, Kansas for this highly anticipated matchup. The Horned Frogs are -7 favorites for the game, but both teams have the possibility to add another win to their record.

This season has shown the Jayhawks their best start since 2009, and they have pushed their way to the top of the Big 12 Conference ranking.

Kansas head coach Lance Leipold has been ecstatic about the team’s success thus far.

According to ESPN, “ ‘…I’m so happy for them because we can see what it does in the community, the stands, togetherness and these are great things to build upon,’ ” Leipod said.

In the next few weeks, the Jayhawks will face other Big 12 conference competitors such as Baylor, no. 7 ranked Oklahoma State, and no. 20 ranked Kansas State.

Saturday’s game marks the third consecutive football sellout of the season, and according to KU Sports, this is the first time that has happened since 2013.

The team has rallied together, and the student body and community is right behind them. Wide receiver Luke Grimm expressed his elation with the positive attitude and buzz around the team.

According to ESPN, “ ‘It feels really good to be the change that is happening right now and putting a footprint in KU football history,’ ” said Grimm.

College football fans will continue to watch the Jayhawks as they move through the rest of season. Kansas fans will stay hopeful for a high rank in the AP Poll and strong record as the season progresses. But the most anticipated event, and the decision that will set the tone for the rest of the season remains at the TCU matchup this Saturday.
