As the warmer temperatures begin to approach, many golf fans turn their attention to the PGA TOUR with its star-studded field and beautiful landscapes.
With 11 events already completed and 11 individual champions, the PGA TOUR is currently on its stretch of tournaments along the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean in Florida. Two of the biggest events of the season are hosted in back-to-back weeks as Russel Henley won his first tournament of the season last week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard.
In the upcoming week, THE PLAYERS Championship will be played at TPC Sawgrass as Official World Golf Ranking number one golfer, Scottie Scheffler, looks to become the first champion to win THE PLAYERS Championship three years in a row.
After THE PLAYERS Championship wraps up on March 16, the TOUR will play one more tournament in Florida at the Valspar Championship.
It will be followed by two tournaments hosted in Texas before the first major tournament of the year, the Master’s Tournament. Scheffler will once again defend his title after his dominant four stroke win last year over second-year and two-time TOUR champion, Ludvig Åberg.
The field of players will continue to be limited into the following week of play as the fifth of eight signature events, RBC Heritage, will be hosted at Harbor Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, SC from April 17-20.
Only a few weeks later, the TOUR will head north for the first time of the season, as Rory McIlroy looks to defend his Truist Championship crown from his five stroke victory last year. After a short stint up north, the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic will be hosted in Myrtle Beach, SC before the second major tournament of the year.
Xander Schauffele will attempt to be the eighth man to defend hisPGA Championship title from the previous season. The last time a golfer defended his PGA Championship title was in 2019 when Brooks Koepka defeated Dustin Johnson by two strokes at Bethpage Black Golf Course.
Once more, the TOUR will head back up north to Dublin, OH as Scheffler looks to defend yet another title at Jack’s Place, Muirfield Village Golf Club. The Memorial Tournament presented by Workday will have a bigger purse plus more FedEx points up for grabs, due to it being one of signature events of the season.
After the always exciting week in Dublin, the TOUR leaves the country and heads to the RBC Canadian in Ontario. With the already busy schedule, the US Open will be played at Oakmont Country Club from June 12 to June 15.
The following week, the eighth and final signature event will be played in Cromwell, CT as Scheffler defends his Travelers Championship title. With a few slow weeks following, the fourth and last major championship will be held out of North America in Portrush, Northern Ireland.
Schauffele will defend his second major of the year at The Open Championship. For only the third time, The Open Championship will be held at Royal Portrush Golf Club for the 153rd edition of The Open.
For the remaining regular season, the TOUR players will look to make a late push for the FedEx Cup playoffs starting on Aug. 7. The three week postseason will see only the top players in the FedEx Cup standings. In the first week, the FedEx St. Jude Championship will see the top 70 players on the PGA TOUR. Last year, international Hideki Matsuyama took the win with a two stroke victory over Schauffele who sat fourth in the standings. The following week, The BMW Championship sees the top 50 in the FedEx Cup standings. Keegan Bradley, the next Ryder Cup captain for the USA, seeks another postseason victory after his impressive win last year.
The PGA TOUR’s season will conclude on Aug. 24 as Scheffler will seek yet another TOUR Championship trophy lift.
