The Philadelphia Eagles dethroned the two-time defending Super Bowl Champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, after it took control of Super Bowl LX early on Sunday night.
Philadelphia took control of the game early as they shut down the powerful Kansas City offense. The Eagles defense held Patrick Mahomes and his offense to only 23 yards in the first half. On top of the trouble, the Eagles forced Mahomes to throw two interceptions which included one being returned for a pick-six by rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean.
On the other side of the ball, Jalen Hurts and company dominated on the ground and in the air. After a long first half for the Chiefs, it found themselves in a 24-0 hole to the team it beat just two years ago in Super Bowl LVII.
While the teams caught their breaths and went over the gameplans for the second half, the crowd had the pleasure of watching Kendrick Lamar perform numerous of his top hits. Lamar made headlines as he performed his Grammy-winning diss track on Aubrey Drake Graham (Drake), “Not Like Us.” On top of that, Lamar brought out artist SZA, as the two performed their song “All the Stars.” Not only did Lamar feature SZA in his performance, but also the highest grossing movie actor of all-time, Samuel L. Jackson and 39-time major champion, Serena Williams.
Once the second half began, the two-time defending champions finally got on the scoreboard. Mahomes connected on a 24-yard pass to rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy. Chiefs Head Coach, Andy Reid, decided to attempt a two-point conversion on the next play, but the Eagles defense was too strong and the Chiefs failed to convert.
Philadelphia outscored Kansas City in the third quarter with a score of 10 to six. As the Eagles were up 34-6 with only a quarter remaining, the Chiefs hopes of the first three-peat in NFL history looked to be over.
Though the Chiefs battled hard in the fourth quarter and outscored the Eagles 16-6, they still ended up way short of victory. Through all four quarters, the Eagles totaled 345 yards with 210 yards in the air and 135 on the ground. With the incredible performance to win the franchise’s second super bowl, the Eagles are now favored to win the 2026 Super Bowl LX played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, according to DraftKings Sportsbook.
