Three days after the Columbus Crew transferred club star Juan Camilo Hernández (Cucho) to Real Betis, the club sent Christian Ramírez to the LA Galaxy for $500k in general allocation money with $250k guaranteed.
Ramírez had multiple stints with different MLS clubs including LAFC on two separate occasions in 2018 and 2019. Ramirez also played for Minnesota United FC and Houston Dynamo FC. Before Ramírez played for the Crew from 2023 to 2024, he played overseas in Scotland for Aberdeen FC in the Scottish Premiership.
Through Ramírez’s 3,058 minutes in a Columbus kit, he tallied 16 goals on 90 shots. Aside from the goal scoring, Ramírez won two trophies in Columbus.
Ramírez credited his success to his relationship with his teammates off of the pitch. In the previous season, Ramírez, Cucho and Diego Rossi grew a strong friendship as well as a dynamic attack. The trio earned themselves the nickname “Los Tres Amigos” which means “the three friends” in english.
“I’ve always felt that I get the best out of guys that I play with. Guys have career years whether I’m in the lineup or not, I’m involved in the locker room,” Ramírez said, according to the Columbus Dispatch.
Not only did the striker earn a nickname with his friends, he also has one for himself alone. In his first two seasons with Minnesota United FC, Ramírez gained the nickname “Superman” as he made superhero-esque plays. Superman will take his talents to the reigning MLS champions in Los Angeles and will look to be a support piece for the star studded front of the Galaxy.
Riqui Puig led the LA Galaxy through the season with 13 goals and 15 assists. He missed the MLS Cup final win with a torn ACL. Ramírez will look to make his debut in the Galaxy’s first match against San Diego on Feb. 23.
