Columbus is busy as ever, especially in the “-ber” months.
The new season of autumn offers beautiful ways to experience our city. From pumpkin patches to haunted houses, Columbus, Ohio has something for everyone.
For people who enjoy the experience of the first bite of a ripe, crisp, apple and picking them yourself, Ohio has an array of apple orchards. Closest to Berlin is CherryHawk Farm Apple Orchard in Marysville. CherryHawk is about 30 minutes away from 3140 BSR. The orchard houses almost a dozen different kinds of apples, local honey, and sunflowers. Apples sell out fast, so go as soon as possible to snag in-season varieties such as Green Mystery, Granny Smith, and Mutsu apples. You can purchase one peck, or about 13 pounds, of apples for $25, which is the minimum purchase.
If you’re interested in U-Pick pumpkins, Leed’s Farm is a great option just 20 minutes away in Ostrander. Leed’s farm has a large expanse of activities to do, including 40 barnyard games, hayrides, farm animals, and the farm pond. Leeds is open every autumn weekend, and one fall weekday, Friday, Oct. 19. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with general admission set at $20 if prepaid, $5 for the Big Zip, and $1 to feed the animals.
Do you want goosebumps? Visit one of Columbus’ famous haunted houses for a horrific scare. There are multiple options for a casual fright, but Fear Columbus remains one of the most popular. Fear Columbus has opened three new houses, and still has many food trucks and a retail store.
“One of the top haunted houses in America,” Columbus-based media group 614 Now said.
New themes for 2024 consist of “Oddballs Feast for Freaks,” “Dearly Departed,” and “Fright Fest at Fearwood High.” For the best rates, you should purchase tickets at the earliest date you can. Tickets cost between $20-$33 – brave souls only!
Another acclaimed activity in Columbus is hiking. Top fall hikes include places such as Highbanks Metro Park, The Scioto Mile, Blendon Woods Metro Park, and Hayden Run Falls. Closest to home is Highbanks Metro Park. Highbanks overlooks the Olentangy State Scenic River, and you will always find hundreds of trees that star orange, red, yellow, and brown leaves. The Overlook trail and Coyote Run trail can be combined for a total of five miles. Be prepared, these trails provide a challenge with steep hills. On certain days, you may be lucky enough to catch various Olentangy Cross Country teams here!
