Seniors are only weeks away from the next major application deadline on Jan. 1 and have already started to reflect on the process.
Many seniors submitted their first application more than a month ago with early decision or early action applications. After the first round of application submissions, students are still in the process to work toward a second round of applications with the next major deadline on Jan. 1 for “Early Decision II” or regular decision. Some students did not submit any applications in the first round and have decided to use the additional time to polish their essays. Others used early decision to increase their chances of admission to selective universities.
“When deciding if you want to do Early Decision, I would advise people to keep in mind and think for a moment about what it means for your decision to be binding. This means that if you are worried about financial aid or scholarships you won’t have a choice later to change your mind,” Sophia Weber ‘24 said.
Besides applications, seniors have also started to focus on scholarships. Seniors can find many resources for scholarships through the school’s OLSD app, Schoolinks, or through other means which include websites and apps. Also, seniors should keep in mind that the FAFSA will open up in early January for seniors to gain federal student aid.
“Scholarships make the idea of college much less stressful and much more attainable for a lot of kids. It is an important part of the application process so college is more attainable and much less of a financial burden” Ellen O’Keefe ‘24 said
The school also provides other activities for the seniors to make the most of their final year. This includes events like Senior Thanksgiving that have already passed and more upcoming events which include Winter Formal, Cap and Gown Distribution, and Senior Awards Night that will be held after winter break.
“I’m excited to go to events that are senior only so I can hang out with my friends before graduation,” Njeri Kimani ‘24 said
