This holiday season, a favorite item on many wish lists is a new water bottle. The big question is, which one?
In the past few years, there have been many water bottle brands come and go, but Hydroflask, Yeti, and Stanley have stuck around. Each brand brings its own unique features to the table, so the decision of which one to choose is a tough call. Once and for all, let’s figure out which one is the ultimate water bottle.
The Hydro Flask is the pioneer of personalization. The sleek, color-coated stainless steel water bottle began to drive a great amount of sales in 2019. This water bottle started out at farmer’s markets and made its way into mainstream stores across America.
According to the Los Angeles Times, water bottles overall are having a big moment. The U.S. sales leaped last year to $318 million, and Hydro Flask was the top brand.
The Hydro Flasks can range in sizes from 12 to 64 ounces and the powder-coated exterior not only adds a stylish touch, but also a slip-resistant grip. I would rate the Hydro Flask a 7/10 for its great color choices and customizability, however, it is very pricey and doesn’t take more than one accident for the smooth appearance to be inevitably dented.
Next up is the Stanley, the classic workhorse. The Stanley brand has sold drinkware for more than 100 years, but in the past two years, it has enamored adolescents. The Stanley is known for its quality, and its legacy in tough outdoor gear. The cup can keep drinks cold for hours with its stainless steel interior. Like the Hydro Flask, the Stanley cup has a variety of color choices, it may lack some flashy designs, but is reliable for those who value simplicity and durability.
“I see everyone carrying it [Stanley] around, and it keeps the ice from melting–which I love. I don’t like how it leaks so easily, if it tips over water will come out of the top. Stanley keeps coming out with new colors which is awesome. The cup is just really expensive for something that leaks.” Evie Roberts ‘26 said.
The Stanley and Hydro Flask both have very comparable designs, although I rate the Stanley cup a 9/10 for its traveling ease.
Lastly, the Yeti: the beast of durability. The Yeti is best known for its high-end coolers, however, their water bottles have gained some popularity in the last decade. The Yeti rambler is synonymous with rugged durability. The brand boasts its puncture-resistant, kitchen-grade stainless steel that can withstand the toughest conditions.
The Yeti is perfect for on-the-move adventures in the backcountry, and long days on the water with its double-wall vacuum insulation and “no-sweat” feature.
The dishwasher-safe design and the no-sweat aspect ensure that no matter the chilled temperature, condensation will not gather on the bottle. The Yeti provides several cup styles, and based on your preference, you will find the perfect one for your activities. I rate the Yeti, a 10/10 for its sturdy and imperishable design.
