Has the full moon ever affected those around you? Recently we experienced the annual Harvest Moon. If you are unaware it is a full moon with a semi orange tint. We have all heard about how different solar aligning can affect certain star signs yet we have no explanation for the full moon.
Full moons are very rare and only show up about 12 times a year. Since the moon controls the tides and humans are made up of about 55% to 78% of water, it is strongly believed that the moon can affect you. But where are the facts?
It is long believed that the moon can affect personality and mood, but it is still unclear exactly how. Many animalistic species have altered their routines to line up with the lunar cycle. Several studies have shown that a slew of processes done by the animals that have been affected by the moon; these include activity levels, feeding rituals, photosensitivity, migration patterns, and the list goes on.
As you may have heard, about the moon and its lunar cycle there have been rumored increased rates of birth, emergency room visits, and an uptick in crime. None of these have been found to be directly connected to the lunar cycle. However, studies have shown possible correlations, but again nothing conclusive.
”In a small study of 17 people, researchers learned that their patients cycled rapidly between states of depression and mania and that these rapid cycles weren’t random but instead in sync with the lunar cycle,” according to the Cleveland Clinic.’
Though they conducted this study, they are still not sure what could be able to cause such drastic effects on the human personality. It could be caused by disruption to the circadian rhythm or the sleep-wake cycle. In tandem with that, our bodies release certain hormones at certain times that affect our mood and how we feel. Some of these hormones are higher during the day than at night and vice versa. The problem with the conduction of these studies that connect the lunar cycle with the sleep cycle is that they are always in contradiction with one another
“Any research that’s been done has been considered controversial, in part, because studies on humans are conflicting,” Dr. Albers said according to the Cleveland Clinic
With all that said we are still not sure if the moon truly affects humans but if you had to guess, what would you say?
