Ra’Shawyn Carter was killed Sunday August 27 in the afternoon; two 13-year-old suspects have been arrested by Columbus Police.

One suspect was charged as a juvenile for murder, and the other suspect was charged as a juvenile for obstruction of justice. A police officer nearby found Carter within minutes of the attack and administered CPR. He was taken to Mount Carmel East Hospital where he died later that night.

According to NBC4, “After the shooting, Stg. Joe Albert said law enforcement officers immediately locked down the area and began investigating near where the victim was found and also escorted shoppers and employees from the area safely.”

Court records from Franklin County say one of the 13-year-old suspects was spotted on video where he shot Carter, threw the weapon into a trashcan, and fled the scene. He was later found at a restaurant nearby along with the other 13 year-old suspect and was arrested by the police where he allegedly confessed to the murder of Ra’Shawyn Carter.

The other suspect charged with obstruction of justice as a juvenile was also seen on video and supposedly lied to investigators about any knowledge he had about the crime.

According to Columbus Dispatcher, “Carter’s mother, Trenise Turner, called police trying to find her son, according to 911 calls The Dispatch obtained Tuesday. She said her son was shot and she went to multiple hospitals trying to find him.

Easton Town Center reopened the following Monday. Easton management makes changes as needed to the outlets security and protocols to ensure the safety of their shoppers.

Easton Shopping Center is a popular place where Berlin students visit for either work or shopping; this has a direct impact on our student community.
