Fans frantically search for an explanation after reports state that the singing and songwriting romantic duo, Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn, broke up a few weeks ago.

A source close to the couple confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that the relationship did not end on bad terms and they intend to remain friends.

“Taylor and Joe broke up a few weeks ago,” the anonymous source said. “They simply grew apart and plan to remain friends.”

Fans speculated the breakup for a few weeks, as Alwyn has not been spotted at any of The Eras Tour shows, which commenced on March 17 in Glendale, AZ.

Over the past six years, the couple kept their relationship mostly private, as Swift mainly hid tidbits about her love for Alwyn in her songs, according to CNN. She fed her fans the romantic insight they longed for in her January Instagram announcement that her Midnights track, “Lavender Haze” was in fact about Alwyn.

“Like my relationship for six years, we’ve had to dodge weird rumors, tabloid stuff and we just ignore it,” Swift said. “This song is sort of about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff.”

Swift collaborated with the British actor and songwriter on a number of songs, which include “Sweet Nothing” from Midnights and multiple songs from Evermore and Folklore when they song-wrote for days on end during the global pandemic.

Rumors on social media say Swift hinted at the breakup with a switch in her tour’s setlist. Instead of “Invisible String” from Folklore about destined soulmates, on March 31 in Arlington, TX she sang “The 1,” which reminisces on a past love.
