While convenience stores across the nation are stocked up on goodies to gift your loved ones this Valentine’s Day, the ultimate gesture to knock your special someone off their feet is to cook them a homemade treat.

In this edition of UnBEARable Baking, Addie Kearns, Levia Ropheka, and Giada DeCapio made Valentine’s Day inspired cake pops. Here’s the recipe to try them for yourself!

Ingredients:

  • 24 cake pop sticks
  • 15 oz box of a cake mix of your choice
  • 10 oz package of chocolate melting wafers (dark or white chocolate)
  • 1 stick of salted butter (softened)
  • 2-2½ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1tbs heavy cream or milk
  • optional: sprinkles or other desired decorations

Frosting:

  1. Whip butter in a medium bowl
  2. Add 1 cup of powdered sugar and mix until combined
  3. Add vanilla and remaining powdered sugar gradually
  4. Add heavy cream or milk to make the frosting think and creamy – it should hold a point

Cake Pops:

  1. Bake the cake using the directions on the box
  2. After the cake has cooled completely, crumble it into fine crumbs
  3. Add 2 spoonfuls of the frosting into the cake crumbs and combine
  4. Gradually add more frosting until cake holds together when squeezed
  5. Roll a ball of the cake/frosting mixture
  6. Melt the chocolate in a separate bowl, then dip the end of the cake pop stick into the melted chocolate and push that same end into the cake ball
  7. Once each ball has a stick, place them in the freezer to harden for about 20 minutes
  8. Dip the cake balls into the melted chocolate, making sure it’s fully coated
  9. While the chocolate is still wet, add sprinkles or other decorations of your preference
