Berlin inducts new members into NHS
November 18, 2022
Last night, the fifth annual induction of the National Honor Society occurred for the class of 2024 in the Berlin auditorium. 189 new members were inducted into the society.
The ceremony kicked off with the Pledge of Allegiance and a congratulatory introduction by senior NHS President Rozalyn Zielinski, then was followed by speeches from each of the four senior officers. Each senior officer talked about a different pillar. Zielinski spoke on scholarship, Vice President Preston Perkins talked about Leadership, Secretary Ali de Gracia shared her thoughts on service, and Communications Officer Alyssa Zuesi spoke about character. To represent the pillars, each officer lit a candle before they spoke.
“Congratulations to all of the new members. You should be incredibly proud of your hard work and dedication throughout high school thus far,” Zielinski said in her introduction.
Next, the officers announced all of the names of the new inductees. Once announced, each individual walked across the stage, signed a book with all of the school’s previous inductees’ signatures, shook Principle Todd Spinner’s hand, and proceeded back to their seats.
Once seated, the new inductees pledged to uphold the high purposes of the National Honor Society.
Then, the much-anticipated announcement of the junior NHS officers commenced. Elizabeth Sprecher was elected communications officer, Lillian Thompson is the new secretary, and Graycen Amos and Thomas Peterson now take on the roles of vice president and president.
“I’m honored to be elected by my peers. I look forward to contributing to the legacy of NHS,” Sprecher said.
To follow the ceremony, treats and punch were served in the commons while inductees and family mingled. The night ended with many pictures and lots of pride.
