Los Angeles Rams player Aaron Donald, and Celtics guard Jaylen Brown announced this week that they have chosen to cut ties with Donda Sports, after founder Kanye West was scrutinized for several antisemitic comments.
West has had an extremely controversial past few months, and the public believes he has reached his limit. He made several antisemitic and racist remarks on various social media platforms and news sites, and will now face major consequences.
Numerous companies have already dropped West from their partnerships which includes; Adidas, Balenciaga, Gap, and several others. Both his Instagram and Twitter accounts were also removed.
West’s Donda Sports, a marketing agency, was launched at the end of May, and had an impressive list of esteemed athletes, namely Donald and Brown who signed with the company back in May.
Donald and his family released a statement to announce he would no longer be signed with Donda Sports.
According to CBS Sports, “The recent comments and displays of hate and antisemitism are the exact opposite of how we choose to live our lives and raise our children,” Donald said.
Tampa Bay Wide Receiver Antonio Brown announced he will remain president of the agency.
“I remain dedicated to helping clarify statements taken out of proportion by the media…I remain in support of the humanity that is Ye,” Brown said according to Sports Illustrated.
Forbes removed West from their list of billionaires due to his behavior, and his music streams across platforms have plummeted, according to CNN. West has been recognized as one of the greatest artists of the generation, and produced several hit songs and highly admired albums. Yet, many people will now remember West for his destructive comments and unacceptable behavior.
To most, West’s reputation will forever be stained, and these instances are something that most of the public will not be able to look past. The long-term future of the artist is still uncertain, but for now, he is in a tough spot with a majority of the world.
