The Columbus Dispatch holds a weekly vote for high school athletes who dominated the past week. Senior Kyle Jackowski, outside linebacker for the football team, has been nominated for this week’s award.

“I think the whole team should’ve been up for votes,” Jackowski said. “With how well we played as a whole this week, not one single athlete out performed the other.”

Humility and hard work have pushed Jackowski to be his best. With 64.5 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, and one sack, Jackowski is a role model on the team.

“The hard work pays off,” Jackowski said. “5 a.m. lifts off-season with your entire team pays off, being able to count on your coaching staff to have a game plan ready from start to finish shows hard work pays off. It’s the little things that matter the most to be a bear.”

Throughout his career, Jackowski has been supported and pushed by not only his coaches, but his father. Over the past 14 years, Jackowski has put his all into every game he’s played.

“I’d have to say my dad had a huge part in my love and commitment to the game of football. No one has ever wanted to see me succeed more than my old man,” Jackowski said.
