Boys soccer scores a senior night win
October 13, 2022
As the fall season came to a close, the boys soccer team was determined to dominate senior night.
With a strong bond as a team that feels like family, the boys wanted to do the seniors night. Prior to game time, the class of ‘23 got one final moment under the lights of 3140 with their families. While they walked down the field, they were able to share their favorite memories as well as advice for their teammates. Some talked about game wins that make them proud while others shared some of their favorite activities the team had done together.
As senior Lincoln Ulrich walked down the field, arms linked with his parents, his comment about his best memory stood out.
“Lincoln believes that his best memory has yet to come,” Olentangy Berlin sports announcer said.
The team gathered back together after their special moment to lock into focus. The Marysville Monarchs were prepared to fight, which left the Bears in a tough battle. With a starting roster made up of almost all seniors, the game action was ready to begin.
Fierce emotion was on the field as the clock started. About halfway through the first half, senior Michael Lapid took a shot at the goal and scored. With a score now of 1-0, the Bears fought to protect the lead. The action swept up and down the field for the entirety of the half as a few more shots were taken in an attempt to score.
Halftime crept around as the score was still 1-0. The team came together to discuss what could be improved in the next 40 minutes along with what they should continue. After a game plan was curated, they took the field once again with even more fight to give.
The Monarchs gave the bears a tough time, which caused them to use all the fight they had. With about ten minutes left in the game, the Monarchs scored, which made the score tie. As no hope was lost, the Bears fought every last minute and while everyone was on the edge of their seats, Lapid scored again and pushed the bears into the lead.
“It felt great to win senior night. One of the senior classes last rides together on our home field together and we got the job done,” Aidan Ackermann ‘23 said. “Crazy how fast it’s gone over the past 4 years.”
The final second ended and the Bears cheered in excitement as they realized they had just won senior night.
