April 25, 2022
As Russia invaded Ukraine, it is said they have broken international law and committed human rights abuse.
Russian soldiers looted civilian property, clothing, food and other valuable items repeatingly. Other violent acts against Ukraine civilians occurred as well, all of which are considered war crimes.
According to Human Rights Watch, ¨The cases we documented amount to unspeakable, deliberate cruelty and violence against Ukrainian civilians… rape, murder, and other violent acts against people in the Russian forces’ custody should be investigated as war crimes,¨ Hugh Williamson said, Europe and Central Asia director at Human Rights Watch.
Biden even accused Russias actions aganist Ukraine to be considered ¨genocide¨. Although not proven by US officials with the lack of sufficient evidence to meet the definition, it has not been closely examined enough.
According to the BBC, the Biden administration last month declared that Myanmar’s military committed genocide against the Rohingya minority. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that it was only the eighth time in history that the US had determined a genocide had taken place.
Russian armed forces continuously shelled for several hours while furthering towards the capital, Kyiv, along a route in which citizens were trying to flee the country.
According to Human Rights Watch, research and analysis by Human Rights Watch indicates that the Russian military was very likely to be able to trace the trajectory of the projectiles or “observe” where they landed, and that the Russian military had information that could be used to correct guidance.
Russian military have known knowledge of the locations of the trajectory of their projectile locations plus, their rapid shelling against Ukraine military affected citizens which could indicate the thoughts of premeditations and responsibilities for citizens lives due to the Russian military.
Ukraine still continues to fight against Russia’s advances with the help of countries apart from NATO.
