Olentangy Bears took time to practice adulting and learning important life skills. Recently they took the next step into adulthood by learning basic car maintenance.
The life skill was taught in the On Your Own class offered at Berlin. The course is offered to Juniors and Seniors. To practice car maintenance Mrs. Shulack taught the basics through an interactive powerpoint. Dpty. Gaines and a mechanic came to give the students a first hand view of car maintenance and its mechanisms. The students were also able to change a tire, identify when an oil change is needed, change a light, and more. They learned from watching and taking part in the activity themselves. Knowing what to do if a tire goes flat, or an engine overheats can save someone’s life. The students were engaged, asked questions, and practiced maintenance repairs.
The course also offers additional life-skills including, but not limited to cooking, budgeting, renting an apartment, adopting pets, mental health, decision-making, and more. Despite the pandemic, Berlin Bears are back and in action at moving forward for the future.
