Since the launch of DBSN in 2023, it has worked to expand coverage of Berlin sports.
This year, Alex Dargatz ‘26, the network’s livestream director, wanted to boost the network’s coverage of football on Friday nights.
“Sometimes I find myself looking for content on high school football, and it’s not really there. So I figured if I could make it for Berlin, I knew there was an audience out there,” Dargatz said.
The vision took shape on the first home game of the season against Upper Arlington. Before kickoff, DBSN aired its first edition of Gameday, which streamed live on OBHS Broadcast, which can be found on YouTube.
Modeled after ESPN’s College Gameday, the show takes viewers through the latest football news around the area, as well as what to expect in the upcoming game. The show’s first hosts were Dargatz, Bekah Lape ‘26, and Jack Carder ‘28.
“[I enjoy] being able to talk about high school sports and the preparation that goes behind it,” Carder said.
DBSN has hosted an episode of Gameday for each home game this season. It is filmed near the entrance of the stadium behind the student tailgate to help create a sports-like atmosphere.
In addition to Gameday, DBSN started streaming live commentary on YouTube during each game, with the full broadcast available for purchase on the district website.
Dargatz and fellow DBSN contributor John Snuffer ‘26 were first on the call, as the two announced Berlin’s game against Orange on Sept. 19.
“It [announcing the Orange game] was great. It’s nice to do it with someone that I know very well and am able to have a conversation with,” Snuffer said.
Since the Orange game, DBSN has produced live commentary for each home game. For Dargatz, it has not only been an enjoyable experience but also a successful one.
“We’ve had a good group of people who have been dedicated to making a good product. We really work hard every week on a tight timeline,” Dargatz said.
All editions of DBSN Gameday and live commentary can be found on the YouTube channel OBHS Broadcast.
