The boys soccer team dominated Marysville 4-0 Tuesday night, as they celebrated senior night.
It was an impressive performance as the Bears took the lead early on and never looked back. Off a corner kick a few minutes into the match, Carter Louters ‘26 played a ball to Ethan Litton ‘27, who smashed the ball in the back of the net, which handed the Bears a 1-0 lead.
Later in the first half, Brayden Schnitzer ‘26 scored from a cross played by Louters. At the break, the Bears led 2-0.
Into the second half, Schnitzer scored once again to put the Bears up 3-0, after a Marysville goalkeeping error and another assist from Louters.
Near the end of the match, Louters’ impressive night continued as he dribbled past a Marysville defender and put the ball past the keeper to hand the Bears a 4-0 lead.
“It [scoring and getting three assists] feels great, especially for the last regular season game at home on senior night,” Louters said.
The match finished with a 4-0 Bears victory. Berlin improved its record to 9-1-3, while Marysville fell to 2-8-4.
“We’ve put a lot of hard work into this season, and we definitely deserved this win. We just got to come out the next couple of weeks and finish strong,” Reid Gatewood ‘26 said.
For assistant coach Ryan Miller, a Berlin alumnus, the win was exactly what the team needed.
“We knew that this was one of those games where if we don’t play as well as we should, it could turn into a tough game… I think a nice, comfortable win was really nice for the boys,” Miller said.
The team now looks forward to the close of the regular season and to the postseason.
“We’re still competing for the OCC and then, of course, the state tournament is always fun too,” assistant coach and Berlin alumnus Landon Kuhn said.
Following the win over Marysville, the Bears defeated St. Francis DeSales Thursday night 5-0.
