Powderpuff is a competition between girls of all grade levels that requires teamwork, spirit, and determination.
Powderpuff has been a homecoming tradition at Berlin for eight years. This is when girls in all grade levels can sign up to play flag football at the OBHS stadium the week of homecoming.
Each grade has a sign up for those interested, after sign up they will meet up for practice and get their lineup ready. The coaches for these teams are participants of the Berlin football team. They volunteer to teach the girls in their grade how to play flag football.
It’s the team’s responsibility to make their own schedule and have their own practices. Many students enjoy these practices because it’s a chance to make connections, and hangout with their peers.
“My favorite part of powderpuff is getting to be on a team with all of my friends from different sports” Ella King ‘28 Said.
When it comes to gameday certain teams play at specific times. Seniors face the freshman on the first game of the day. This year Gameday was on Sept. 24. After the fourth game, the sophomores and juniors play against each other. This game can usually be more interesting because the athletes playing are closer in age.
“As a coach my favorite part of gameday is the energy during the games. Everyone is super excited during it and there was a huge crowd last year which was really fun,” Micah Staten ‘28 said.
Afterwards, it’s time for the final game. The teams that won go head to head and play for the championship. The winners are therefore the 2025 powderpuff champions.
The game is always hosted during homecoming week, this is meant to create great excitement for homecoming. The 3140 tradition continues and powder puff is an exciting moment for all kinds of students.
