The halls of 3140 are filled with childhood joy, as seniors cherish their final moments at Berlin and reflect on memories of youthful bliss. For the last couple of years, the seniors have begun a tradition to wear elementary-style backpacks.
This tradition rooted from social media when the trend of childhood backpacks went viral on TikTok. Social media became flooded with senior year starter pack suggestions which included senior scrapbooks, senior jeans, senior sunrise posters and senior backpacks. Graduated classes had purchased character backpacks as well, such as Barbie, Care Bears, princesses, ninja turtles and many more, which was also a prominent influence.
“I saw this trend first on tiktok, and I thought it would be a cute yet memorable addition for my senior year. I got a backpack with all of the disney princesses on it, and I took the trend a step further by getting a fortnite lunch box as well,” Amelia Smith ‘26 said.
The underclassmen are now more excited to become seniors after they see all of the fun backpacks in the hallways. This new trend that has branched to Berlin is now just another tradition that Berlin underclassmen can look forward to. Although they do not have to participate, it is difficult to find a senior who hasn’t.
“Seeing all of the different senior backpacks in the hallways makes me really excited to pick out my own when I am a senior,” Ella King ‘28 said.
The backpack diversity isn’t limited to childhood TV show characters, but also nostalgic backpacks from the seniors’ childhood backpacks. Many seniors have decorated their backpacks with patches, initials and pom poms to make them more personalized.
“I had a monogram backpack when I was younger so I decided to kick that back up for my senior year. I added my own touch by getting a loveshack fancy one,” Paige Miles ‘26 said.
