Call It What You Want, but fans are Enchanted by the recent announcement of Taylor Swift’s newest album, The Life of a Showgirl.
The timeline of the release spanned over three days, in which the beloved pop star made her fanbase, the “swifties” start to speculate on August 11. “Taylor Nation”, the instagram designated to represent Swift’s headquarters, posted a grid post filled with photos from her Eras Tour, where Swift is seen wearing all orange colored costumes. The post was captioned with “Thinking about when she said ‘See you next era’…”.
Swift’s website shut down, just revealing an orange background and a countdown to midnight.
Not long after, an Instagram Reel on @newheightshow, a podcast between NFL players and brothers Travis and Jason Kelce, was posted that showed Swift with the brothers as she would be the next guest to sit at the microphone. The brothers began the podcast in fall 2022 as a way for them to stay connected, while living across the country. The New Heights Show gained a lot of social media attention with the 2023 Superbowl, when the Chiefs faced the Eagles.
On Aug. 13, the Kelce brothers welcomed Swift to the podcast, which premiered at 7 p.m. With the millions of fans tuned in, YouTube experienced a temperamental shut down of the program. In 4 weeks after the release of the podcast, the announcement gained over 22 millions views across the world. Dedicated fans were shocked when Swift was said to feature on the New Heights Show, as the pop star has never done a full length podcast style interview throughout her entire career.
Within the episode, the conversation transcended beyond Swift’s music career, and discussed Kelce and Swift’s love story, their individual hobbies, and more. Towards the end of the podcast, Swift went into depth about the arrival of her newest album, The Life of a Showgirl. With producers Max Martin and Shellback, Swift praised the creativity that went into her twelfth album.
“It felt like catching lightning in a bottle,” Swift said.
Different from her indie, folk inspired albums, The Life of a Showgirl is set to highlight the life of this popstar that has been depicted only a few times in past tracks.
“It just comes from like the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in my life. And so that effervescence has come through on this record…” Swift said.
Fans will want to mark their calendars for Oct. 3 to listen to Taylor Swift’s newest album with twelve tracks, which includes the final song as the title track, “The Life of a Showgirl” ft. Sabrina Carpenter.
