After three successful seasons, “The Summer I Turned Pretty” announced that a movie is in the works. The show quickly became an internet sensation when it first debuted in 2022.
The show premiered on Prime Video and follows Jenny Han’s best-selling novel series. The series tells the story of Belly Conklin and her love triangle relationship with brothers Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher. It features new stars Lola Tung, Gavin Casalegno and Chris Briney.
Each season of the series has followed the plot of one of the books, so many fans thought that the end of season three would signal the end of the show. Showrunner Han surprised fans by simply posting to Instagram “The Summer I Turned Pretty the Movie.” She attended an NBC Today interview with Tung, Briney, and Casalegno.
“I can say there’s another big milestone for Belly, so we’ll continue with that journey,” Han said.
A date for the film has not yet been announced. Han later said that the release date won’t be next year. She also confirmed that the movie will be “the final chapter” in the stories of Belly Conklin and the Fisher brothers.
“Season 3 of ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ was super entertaining and kept me waiting for the next episode to come out each week. Although it felt a bit slow-paced, the drama and many plot twists kept me interested. ’I’m excited to see all of the new things that will happen in the new movie,” Paige Boertje ‘29 said
“The Summer I Turned Pretty” is well known for its popular soundtrack, including the works of Olivia Rodrigo, Fleetwood Mac, and, most notably, Taylor Swift. The show features 26 songs from Swift’s catalog, ranging from her slow love ballads all the way to her most angsty anthems.
