This summer has been filled with blockbuster hits week after week all summer long, but only one movie can come out on top, and rumor has it that it’s been a Superman summer.
“Superman” was my top movie of the summer. The storytelling was crucial, and I believe everyone should strive to be a lot more like the Man of Steel himself. The cast was fantastic throughout the entire movie. Not only did the movie look, sound, and feel fantastic, but the numbers speak for themselves. As many fans are aware, DC has struggled to create an enjoyable Superman movie for a long time, and some could argue that this is true for any superhero movie. As DC began to establish itself in a new universe, the DCU (previously the DCEU) was launched. David Corenswet is not only a phenomenal actor but also brought Superman to life perfectly, compared to those who have fallen short of the honor.
James Gunn’s “Superman” became the highest-grossing solo Superman film in the U.S. with a box office of $353.4 million as of early September. It also has the best comic book movie opening of 2025 in the U.S., bringing in $125 million in the U.S. and Canada. It is the highest-grossing superhero film of 2025 Worldwide as it flew past $600 million globally, outperforming other superhero films released this year.
Not only do the numbers speak for themselves, but the arching message is beautifully written and brought to life. Fans are happy to see an accurate portrayal of Superman, as the previous DCEU Superman played by Henry Cavill is often criticized as an accurate portrayal of the comic book character.
Second on my list this summer is “The Naked Gun” not only is this movie a comedy classic, but the cast once again, was absolutely stunning. I was entranced all movie long and as someone with a short attention span, it was enjoyable in its entirety. However, I think that it pushes its PG-13 rating, and might not be for everyone.
“The Map That Leads to You”, though not in theaters, was my third favorite movie of the summer. I watched it with my mom and I absolutely loved every second of the movie. I love a good romance ending, and I was on the edge of my seat throughout the whole movie. It was nice to see a movie with Madelyn Cline where a Netflix script was not included. I feel that her previous scripts have limited her acting range. The movie was set in Europe and it included a beautiful setting and an even better storyline. It was one of those tear-jerking movies where the characters are realistic, but you are still able to grasp the ending. Like most romance movies, it was slightly predictable but still an amazing story and I highly recommend it if that is your kind of movie.
Fourth on my list is “F1: The Movie”. As someone who is not into car races, Brad Pitt did an amazing job of making it a movie that piqued my interest the entire time, but also made me want to go out and learn more about Formula 1 racing. However, I have heard complaints about unrealistic plot elements and that the movie was made to help engage the non-F1 or motorsport fans–which, I can understand. For me, I don’t think that this was near my top three movies, as I just wasn’t as interested in it, but who doesn’t love Brad Pitt.
“I Know What You Did Last Summer”, “Materialists”, “Honey Don’t” were a few other movies that stood out to me this summer. I think this summer was a huge hit for blockbuster movies and I am excited for summer 2027 as I think it will be the next big summer for movies due to the influx of superhero movies with DC and Marvel going against each other.
