Self-care and mental health has become a major topic in society as people are now more aware and have discovered how important it is to take care of yourself.

As I have started to take better care of myself I have gathered some tips on how to take care of yourself in a healthy way and will share them for you to integrate into your life.

The first tip I have is to set a daily routine for yourself. I have found that with a daily routine, I can get all my tasks completed and feel that I am not all over the place. I believe that a good routine starts with a clean room and to make yourself feel clean. To start, adopt a great skin-care routine as well as time to clean your room or tidy it up a little. Don’t let others dictate to you what a clean room looks like. Your definition of one could be different from others. Remember that a little bit can go a long way.

“A nightly care routine is very important to me because it’s a great way to wind down and get comfortable after a long day,”  Cameron Moreland ‘24 said.

The next tip I have is to make time for hobbies and spend time with yourself. Your life can get filled with stressful things like school and work, so it’s important to take time for the activities that make you happy and apply some peace to your life. Life can also feel down when you rely on friends too much or they aren’t the nicest. Take some time out of your day to go do things on your own and destress.

One of the last tips I have is to always make sure you set aside some time for your physical and mental health. When it comes to your mental health it’s always ok to take a day off at home or to find someone you feel safe to talk to. Take advantage of those nice days and just go for a little walk at a local metro park or just around your neighborhood. You don’t have to go for a big run or complete a huge cardio workout to be in good physical shape.

“You need to take breaks to really enjoy your time and to get a better experience out of taking care of your mental and physical health,” Maichayla Hawkins ‘24 said.

These are only a few steps that you could take for self-care as there are many more tips and tricks out there. I encourage you to start your own self-care regimen as summer is around the corner and create a great end to the school year.
