Though the football season has come to an end, and some of the excitement has retired along with it, the Berlin drumline continues to ignite spirit in the hearts of the Bears.

Along with the trend of banquets, awards, and end-of-season celebrations, The Cave, the football team, and members of the drumline itself reflect on what was a successful, pride-filled start to the year.

From the student section, to the sidelines, to the turf – the drumline inspired Berlin spirit and inserted it into every aspect of football Friday nights. Not only did this pride further confirm Berlin’s title as “Most Spirited High School in America,” but it also connected all the parts of Double Blue Country, no matter how different their roles.

“My favorite part of the third quarter drumline was when we got to throw the powder. I like how the cheerleaders and band are all a part of the student section like one big family,” senior Cave leader, Audrey Butcher, said.

The members of the drumline embodied everything it means to be a Bear. As they stood shoulder to shoulder, they created relationships and music that will leave a legacy, and last long after their time on the sidelines ends.

“My favorite part of being on the drumline would have to be the family environment of the drumline because we all have gotten so close and there’s nothing more special than that,” freshman drumline member, Sarah Scholl, said.

The drumline grew closer as a team, but they also established a reputation as a major contributor to the spirited, fun atmosphere of The Cave. Whether it was the pregame grand entrance of the band, third quarter jig, or post-game show, the drumline was known to provide plenty of excitement that Bears could build off of.

“The drumline provides so much energy for The Cave. The cave wouldn’t be what it is without it,” senior Cave leader, Mike Lapid, said.

Along with its influence on the student section, the drumline is also credited for how they brought energy to the turf, too. Berlin players are thankful for the constant support they received from the drumline, and felt that it seriously impacted their play as well.

“The drumline isn’t always noticeable directly on the field, yet they play a massive role in the success of our team. The drumline is at the core of our energy during games and is the main reason the team plays loose and with an athletic arrogance,” senior football player, Justin Henry, said.

Coaches also agreed that the drumline added an irreplaceable vibe to the environment on the sidelines. Though the Cave, cheerleaders, and fans in the bleachers all showed support, the Berlin coaching staff acknowledged the importance of the band and the drumline, too.

“The drumline gives a different feel to the atmosphere of games. It just gives that extra chill, it’s different from hearing a chant in the student section – it gives that extra boom,” football coach Delano Madison, said.
