As the Bears look forward to the Homecoming game this Friday, they also have to consider the challenges they may face along with it.

From the difficulty of a long season to the distractions of a busy week at school, the football team will work to maintain focus on the game and all that must happen in order to end up on the right side of the scoreboard.

“There’s a lot of distractions this week but they’re positive, good distractions,” varsity head coach Mark Nori said. “When it comes to playing on Friday we’ve got to make sure that we are focused on the task at hand.”

With a winning record of 4-2, the Bears have not disappointed so far this season. Though they have faced some fierce competition, the team consistently proves their grit and ability to work hard to get the win.

“The main focus is definitely putting on the blinders and focusing on this week as a different week,” senior Justin Henry said. “Coming off of two wins, we can’t let that get in our heads and we have a good Darby team coming to play so we need to be as prepared as possible.”

The team has dealt with some struggles this season, they have many new players and took some time to find their identity as a program both on and off of the field. However, with the help of the senior class they have managed to establish their presence as a whole.

“The biggest challenge [this season] has definitely been finding who we are. We have a lot of new people so finding out who we are as a team and how we can use that to play at the highest level possible has been a big focus,” Henry said.

Along with all of the other Homecoming festivities that will take place throughout the week, the game on Friday is another that many students and members of the Berlin community will look forward to. The football team is thankful for the support they receive from the stands every week and feels that it influences their game play, too.

“The spirit and enthusiasm is already a given, so what we need to have happen from a football perspective is the mental awareness that we have a job to do and a job to complete on Friday night,” Nori Said.
